Earlier today I was checking my usual sites for messages and what not and this was freshly sitting in my ask box on Tumblr.

Now I know the majority, if not all of the people following this blog are makeup junkies and/or circle lens fanatics. I know the title alone probably riled up quite a few of you, but let's look into this a little deeper.
Personally, this was two compliments in one post regarding two different topics. One about natural beauty, and then the other being called a plastic doll. If anon only knew that that is one of the things I want to be, haha. AND, that I actually like the way I look naturally as well.
What baffles me is why would someone send this to a person who clearly enjoys dying her hair unnatural colors and likes to wear makeup and contacts and then call her a fake, plastic doll? Don't they realize that that's a compliment? Hahaha.
But the big question is, why are the looks more important than the mind? Why is it that being "natural" is better than being "unnatural"? What's the difference if the person's personality is rotten? At least she's pretty? Or, she's ugly either way?
It's things like this that make people feel so inadequate because you can judge a person on the outside faster than on the inside. One look at a person and they can instantly judge you for everything you are and think they're better than you.
Who's to say what was going through this person's head. I don't know if they were trolling, jealous, bored, or ignorant. Hell, it could be all of the above but it's clear that this person was saying I wasn't good enough. Who is that person to say that I'm not? Even if they knew me personally or found me randomly online, what have they done as a human that makes them better than another human? We breathe the same air, we both make mistakes, we both have to work, we both have to live through the bad times in life. I would never say I'm better than anyone but I would never go around trying to put someone down. Even if they knew I had a strong personality, you shouldn't do that. It's rude, disrespectful, and a waste of time.
This is also a result of how they grew up mentally. Someone or something taught them to think closed-mindedly when it comes to beauty and that you should be degraded for not following those ways. Beauty comes in all forms. Through someone's personality, past, love, passion, appearance, grace, androgyny, compassion, confidence, hard work, etc. etc. The word beauty isn't defined by one thing, but by many things that are appealing to the eyes. Yes, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" but that doesn't make a person less ignorant if they don't respect other people's opinions and interests.
Like I had said at the end of my response, "Let them figure out how they're going to feel beautiful."
I don't know who was behind this and I can only hope that my response opened their eyes to a world of different beautiful people.

Guh-- I hate that 'natural beauty is the best'! Mentality a lot of folks seem to have. :/
ReplyDeleteI, too, have a 'split' personality in the sense that I absolutely LOVE to mess with makeup, lenses, and hair colour for 'extreme' or 'unnatural' looks, but almost every day of the week, I go without makeup and lenses. Haha.
Hopefully that person DOES become a little less narrow-minded...
In a way that's how society trains us, girls are show to be primarily valued for their looks.
ReplyDeleteMost of the time inner qualities aren't shown to be as valued in pop culture, so girls grow up feeling their appearance is what defines them.
So until someone grows out of that, any threat to their self image, which is their appearance, needs to be attacked.
Oh what a troll... Honestly its always these types who "love" natural looks that first complain when they actually see a girl's completely nude face: saying she looks old, ugly, tired, haggard etc.
ReplyDeleteEvery photo we see in the media is photoshopped into oblivion, natural beauty is just very skilled artistry nowadays, so they shouldn't go around saying things like that.
No sadly, noone cares about the personalty of women (unless they are already close irl) our primary value in society has always been our appearance, and secondly our ability to bear children. Thats why when women age they either get shuffled out of view, or cling to youth desperately through beauty products and plastic surgery.
Oh, this does rile me up...
AMEN TO YOUR RESPONSE AND THIS POST.. This anon doesn't truly understand what natural beauty is. In their mind they probably believe it to be as someone with completely perfect skin, hair, etc ... This person's idea of natural beauty doesn't exist. Everyone manipulates their beauty to some degree, ESPECIALLY all of those models involved in high-end fashion. So for them to call you fake, mine as well call every female/male in the world fake.
ReplyDeleteThey probably also believe that makeup is a big
no-no. :p Anon needs to start loving herself.
I'm assuming its a female. xD
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Natural is not always perfect! Sure it looks nice but I like my make up thank you very much. People like this, I just don't understand
ReplyDeleteI am going to admit it riled me up. lol..probably what she's after, a reaction. Either way, she does NOT matter. Beauty is found in all shapes and sizes, all colours, all varieties. If everyone was "natural" this world would yearn for some colour. Where is she from? Pleasantville? LOL! It's beauty bloggers like you who make me appreciate and admire the artistry and beauty you share, which is you and your fantastic, fun ideas which are inspirational :)
ReplyDeleteAMEN!
ReplyDeleteyour response was just perfect, perfect!!! :)
ReplyDeletesadly this reminded me of my close minded grandma who did not agree with my "pink hair" .. she said i will regret it later in life.... :( i wanted to scream at the top of my lungs.. but in respect to elderly people especially my relatives, i kept my mouth shut.
the main thing is, fashion and makeup is fun! it's fun transforming yourself into a whole new person, it's art! it is about the looks, at some point, but it's also about expressing yourself ~ and being creative!! sure there are days when i feel lazy and being natural is fine, but if i did that everyday, i'd be bored!!!
argh the world is so misunderstanding about women and their looks , but im glad you're you!!! :) you're such an inspiration, through your art and also through your creative makeup, fashion and hair ways!!! <3 love love
Beautiful reply to a issue all young women face - our appearances. I find the irony thick that this person would hide their face behind animosity then directly talk down to someone about their looks.
